Srinagar, Feb 06: The Jammu and Kashmir government on Friday informed the Legislative Assembly that 182 posts are currently vacant in educational institutions of Paddar and Nagseni, even as steps are being taken to fill the gaps through recruitment, promotions and staff rationalisation.
Replying to a question tabled by Sunil Kumar Sharma, the government shared a detailed vacancy position across different cadres in the two educational zones.
As per the official reply, out of a sanctioned strength of 486 posts, only 304 are in position, leaving 182 vacancies. These include five Principals, 26 Lecturers, 29 Masters, 72 Teachers, 32 MTS posts, and vacancies in key non-teaching positions such as Head Assistant, Senior Assistant, Junior Assistant, Librarian and Laboratory Assistant.
The government said that while the post of Head Master stands fully staffed, shortages persist across most other cadres, particularly teaching positions, affecting the overall academic functioning of schools in the two areas.
To address the shortage, the government said that existing and anticipated teacher vacancies are being utilised under the Transition of Teacher Grade process.
It added that the immediate shortage of teaching staff will be managed through rationalisation and engagement of Cluster Resource Coordinators (CRCs).
The House was also informed that 594 Lecturer posts have been referred to the Jammu and Kashmir Public Service Commission for selection. In addition, the Education Department is in the process of effecting promotions of PG Masters and Teachers as Lecturers, Teachers as Masters, and Masters as Headmasters, which is expected to significantly ease staff shortages across the Union Territory, including in Paddar and Nagseni.
On non-teaching posts, the government said that the promotion process for Non-Gazetted and Non-Teaching district cadre posts is underway and vacancies are being filled through Departmental Promotion Committees (DPCs).
The government assured the Assembly that these measures are aimed at ensuring time-bound filling of vacancies and improving staff availability in schools of the remote Paddar and Nagseni areas.
