Offline classes to resume only after safety clearance: DSEJ

Jammu, Sept 09: The
Directorate of School Education Jammu (DSEJ) on Tuesday announced that
offline classes in all Government and Private Schools across the Jammu division will remain suspended
until a valid Structural Safety Certificate is issued by the competent authority.
Dr. Naseem Javaid Chowdhary, Director of School Education Jammu, said that
no school, government or private, will be allowed to resume physical classes without proper clearance on the structural integrity of their buildings.
“Heads of Institutions (HOIs) and School Management Committees must conduct a
thorough safety audit of school buildings and submit a detailed report to the concerned authority,” Dr. Chowdhary said.
He added that schools are required to
evaluate their overall readiness to resume offline teaching
only after obtaining the structural safety certificate.
“If any school believes its building is safe and does not require a third-party safety audit, the HOI or School Management Committee must submit a
formal undertaking certifying that the premises are
structurally sound and safe for students and staff. This undertaking must be submitted to the respective
Chief Education Officer (CEO) or Zonal Education Officer (ZEO),” he said.
Meanwhile, the offline classes in the Jammu division have been
suspended for the past two weeks due to
adverse weather conditions and flash floods, which have affected several districts across the region. Many school buildings are reported to have suffered
waterlogging or minor damage, prompting safety concerns.
All schools in the Jammu division are currently holding online classes, following the government's directive for schools to transition to online classes until the weather conditions improve in the Jammu division.
