Srinagar: Director Unacademy Srinagar, Lateef Masoodi, on Thursday said that no child should ever be denied quality education due to financial constraints, asserting that “education is a right, not a privilege.”
Addressing a press conference at Unacademy’s Parraypora head office, Masoodi said the Indian educational technology company has significantly expanded its footprint in Kashmir with the aim of providing quality coaching to students from all backgrounds at an affordable cost.
He said Unacademy has established operational centres at Zakura in Srinagar outskirts and Anantnag in south Kashmir to ensure wider access to students across the Valley.
“Our motive is that every child, from north to south Kashmir, should benefit. The Zakura centre caters to students from Ganderbal and adjoining areas, while the Anantnag centre is serving students from south Kashmir,” he said.
Masoodi said Unacademy offers special concessions for orphans, students from economically weaker sections and children of religious clerics.
“I made it clear to the Unacademy head office that orphans and poor students must get at least a 50 percent fee concession. Even after that, if a child faces difficulty, he or she should not go back disappointed from this centre,” he said.
Masoodi said bringing a corporate education franchise to Kashmir was driven by a clear mission to make education affordable for all.
“If, for the sake of money, any child is turned away, then I do not deserve to sit on this chair,” he said.
Speaking about academic standards, he said faculty members are recruited only after qualifying rigorous tests conducted by the Unacademy head office, while the study material is prepared and updated annually by a team of experts in Bengaluru with over 25 years of experience.
He that students enrolled at Unacademy have access to both offline classroom teaching and online learning facilities, enabling them to continue studies from home as well.
Besides coaching for competitive examinations, Unacademy has also started foundation courses for classes 8th, 9th and 10th.
“Parents can visit our centres, review the fee structure and decide for themselves whether Unacademy is affordable,” he said.
He said the Zakura and Anantnag centres are already functional and announced plans to further expand operations to north Kashmir in the near future.
“We have many plans ahead, and we promise to reach every student in Kashmir through Unacademy,” Masoodi added.
