Poonch, Feb 06: A live explosive shell believed to be from across the Line of Control (PoK) was recovered on Thursday from Village Chool, Brari Sector, Sawjian Loc area, under Tehsil Mandi, District Poonch.
According to official sources, the unexploded shell was found in Mohalla Kagni, near the house of Mohd Sadeeq, son of Kalo Khan, Ward No. 04. Local residents noticed the suspicious object and immediately informed the Army and Police authorities, preventing any untoward incident.
Acting swiftly on the information, teams from the Indian Army’s 40 Rashtriya Rifles (40 RR), along with police personnel, rushed to the spot. The area was promptly cordoned off to ensure the safety of civilians.
After following all standard safety protocols, the Army’s bomb disposal squad successfully defused the live shell, averting a potential threat to life and property.
Local people appreciated the timely action and coordination between the Army and Police, which ensured the situation was handled smoothly without any casualties or damage.
Authorities have advised residents to remain vigilant and immediately report any suspicious objects to security forces.
