Unveils statue of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel at Pantha Chowk
Srinagar, Oct 8: Heightened vigilance, area domination, and the deployment of advanced surveillance technology have significantly curbed infiltration attempts along the Line of Control (LoC), said Inspector General (IG) BSF Kashmir Frontier, Ashok Yadav, on Wednesday.
Speaking to media on the sidelines of a statue unveiling ceremony of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel at the BSF Camp in Pantha Chowk, Yadav said credible intelligence inputs suggest that several terrorists remain stationed at launch pads across the LoC, waiting for opportunities to cross into Indian territory.
“The BSF, in close coordination with the Army, has maintained strict domination along the LoC. Constant patrolling, advanced monitoring equipment, and real-time intelligence sharing have ensured that no infiltration attempts have succeeded,” IG Yadav stated.
With winter just two months away, he warned of renewed attempts by terrorists to infiltrate. “As the terrain becomes more challenging in winter, our alertness only increases. Our continuous monitoring and control over vulnerable areas will ensure that any such attempts are detected and neutralised promptly,” he said.
Yadav added that the number of terrorists stationed at launch pads varies over time, but current estimates place the figure between 100 and 120, all of whom are foreign nationals.
Commenting on reports of alleged collaboration between Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and Islamic State (IS), Yadav said security agencies are monitoring such developments closely.
“All intelligence inputs are thoroughly analysed. We plan and execute operations in coordination with other security agencies, keeping the evolving threat landscape in mind,” he said.
IG BSF Yadav emphasised that coordinated intelligence, advanced surveillance, and continuous patrolling remain central to preventing infiltration, particularly as mountainous terrain becomes more challenging during winter.
He said there is an importance of multi-agency coordination, which has helped pre-empt any terrorist movement in recent weeks.
He also said the measures, strengthened after Operation Sindoor, underscore the commitment of security forces to maintain tight control along the LoC, deter cross-border terrorism, and ensure the safety of local populations.
Earlier, IG BSF Ashok Yadav unveiled a statue of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel at the BSF Sector HQ, Srinagar, Pantha Chowk campus, in the presence of Raghubir Singh, DIG SHQ BSF Srinagar, and Ghanshyam Vasani, Founder of the Gujarat-based NGO Swarnim Gujarat Youth Foundation, Surat.
The event began with a welcome address by DIG Raghubir Singh, followed by speeches from Ghanshyam Vasani and IG Ashok Yadav, who highlighted Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel’s enduring legacy in promoting national unity and cohesion.
The ceremony concluded with the presentation of a memento to the foundation’s chairman, symbolizing the collaboration between security forces and civil society in celebrating national values and festive spirit.
The programme marked the installation of the Iron Man Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel statue and included a cultural and celebratory component.
As part of the “Surat Se Sarhad Tak” initiative, the foundation members also met with troops from units under SHQ BSF Srinagar (41, 60, 64 & 80 BN BSF) and distributed sweets and gift packs to jawans, from Constable to ASI, to celebrate the festival of Diwali with the forces.
