Srinagar, Jan 19: Jammu & Kashmir Postal Circle achieved a significant milestone with the inauguration of its first N-Gen themed Post Office in Kashmir at the University of Kashmir campus, and the second in the J&K Circle after AIIMS Vijaypur.

Launched as part of the Department of Posts’ broader initiative to modernise campus post offices, the N-Gen themed Post Office aims to transform conventional postal facilities into youth-centric, technology-enabled service hubs.

The N-Gen Post Office at the University of Kashmir was dedicated by Prof. Nilofer Khan, Vice-Chancellor, University of Kashmir, and D. S. V. R. Murthy, Chief Postmaster General, Jammu & Kashmir Circle, in the presence of Shri Adam Mohi-ud-Din, Senior Superintendent of Post Offices, Srinagar Postal Division. The ceremony was attended by senior postal officials, faculty members, staff, and students of the University of Kashmir.

Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Nilofer Khan said that this is a transformative step by India Post to align traditional postal services with the aspirations of the youth. The initiative, she noted, reflects the Department of Posts’ commitment to transforming traditional post offices into service hubs that resonate with young citizens.

Murthy praised the strategic vision of the Minister of Communications, Jyotiraditya M. Scindia, emphasising that India Post must evolve into a modern logistical and financial engine while maintaining its inclusive ethos.

He said the N-Gen initiative is designed to bridge the gap between traditional reliability and new-age digital speed. He further stated that the N-Gen Post Office offers a modern ambience, digital payment options, simplified service delivery, and enhanced access to postal, banking, insurance, and e-commerce services under one roof.

The Chief Postmaster General also said the N-Gen Post Office will promote awareness about postal savings schemes, digital banking through India Post Payments Bank (IPPB), and other value-added services among students and members of the University community.

He added that the initiative marks an important step towards strengthening campus-based public services and highlights the shared commitment of the Department of Posts and the University of Kashmir towards innovation, collaboration, inclusivity, and customer-centric service delivery.

The interior of the N-Gen themed Post Office has been redesigned to create a youthful and welcoming ambience. The space now features attractive wallpapers, comfortable sofas, a smart TV, traditional papier-mâché décor, and crewel curtains—blending modern comfort with Kashmiri craftsmanship. Students from the University of Kashmir participated in the revamping process and were awarded certificates along with an honorarium for their contribution. The wall art was created by students of the School of Fine Arts, adding a vibrant touch to the premises.

To enhance convenience for visitors, especially students, the Post Office has introduced a coffee machine, free Wi-Fi, board games, and Aadhaar updation services. A five-foot-tall decorative pen has also been installed next to the letter box, serving as an eye-catching feature and a popular selfie point for students.
