Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s three-day visit to Jammu and Kashmir underscores the government's unwavering commitment to the region's stability and progress. The focus of the meetings has been the prevailing law and order situation, counter-terror operations, and overall security preparedness in the Union Territory. This marks Shah's second high-level security review of Jammu and Kashmir within a month, following a similar assessment conducted in New Delhi on January 8, 2026. The heightened attention comes amid growing concerns about the presence of foreign terrorists in strategic areas. It must be noted that there is a concern in the security grid about the presence of foreign terrorists in the upper reaches of the Jammu division, including Kathua, Doda, Kishtwar and Udhampur districts. Recent anti-terror operations have resulted in the elimination of four hardcore Pakistani terrorists belonging to Jaish-e-Mohammad in nearly a dozen encounters across Kathua, Udhampur, and Kishtwar districts over the past fortnight, highlighting the ongoing security challenges. The Home Minister conducted an extensive visit to forward areas along the International Border in Kathua district. The Home Minister visited the border outposts of Gurnam and Bobiyian in the Hira Nagar sector and interacted with the Border Security Force (BSF)personnel guarding the frontier. During these interactions, the Home Minister inspected arrangements made by the BSF to curb infiltration, arms smuggling, and narcotics trafficking along the vulnerable frontier. Addressing BSF personnel, Shah described the BSF as an "indispensable wall" protecting India and highlighted Operation Sindoor as a shining example of the force's courage. He virtually inaugurated and laid the foundation for six welfare schemes for border guards, demonstrating the government's commitment to supporting frontline security personnel who serve under challenging conditions. Shah chaired high-level meetings to assess the current security environment, with particular attention to border areas and other sensitive districts. The meetings were attended by senior officials from the Ministry of Home Affairs, Intelligence Bureau, chiefs of Central Armed Police Forces and top officers from Jammu and Kashmir's civil administration, police, and intelligence agencies. Discussions focused on counter-terror operations, border management, infiltration attempts and inter-agency coordination to maintain peace and stability. Beyond security concerns, Shah's visit includes development review meetings to evaluate progress on pivotal development initiatives in Jammu. The Home Minister distributed compassionate appointment letters to families of terror victims, offering tangible support to those who have suffered losses in the fight against terrorism. He is scheduled to review key infrastructure projects, connectivity improvements, and grassroots governance initiatives, emphasizing the Centre's dual focus on security and development. This comprehensive visit demonstrates the government's strategic and multifaceted approach to addressing Jammu and Kashmir's complex security and developmental challenges.
