Srinagar, Apr 26: Peoples Democratic Front President and former Cabinet Minister Hakeem Mohammad Yaseen on Sunday said that the government has failed to curb rising unemployment in Jammu and Kashmir, with youth across the Union Territory facing an uncertain future.
Addressing various delegations at the party headquarters, including a large number of unemployed youth, Yaseen said the government has not been able to effectively address the growing job crisis.
He stressed the need for launching concrete initiatives and employment-oriented schemes to tackle the issue and provide meaningful opportunities to the youth.
Highlighting concerns over the tourism sector, Yaseen said several tourist destinations in Budgam district continue to remain neglected.
He pointed out that Todamaidan has remained closed since last year, severely impacting the livelihood of people who are wholly dependent on tourism activities in the area.
He further alleged that at Doodpathri, incidents of miscreants threatening tourists have been reported, creating an atmosphere of fear and affecting tourist inflow.
Yaseen emphasized that such issues must be addressed on priority to restore confidence among visitors.
He added that proper infrastructure development at Doodpathri is essential to unlock its full tourism potential and boost the local economy.
Yaseen appealed to Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to take immediate cognizance of the situation and initiate necessary measures to address unemployment and revive the tourism sector in the region.
