Srinagar, Sept 26: Inspector General of Border Security Force (BSF) Kashmir Frontier, Ashok Yadav, on Friday said that security forces are on high alert along the Line of Control (LoC) and are fully prepared to thwart infiltration attempts by terrorists.
Addressing media persons at Humhama headquarters in Srinagar on the sidelines of unveiling of T-shirt for the upcoming Wular Half Marathon 2.0, scheduled to be held on October 12, 2025, under its social initiative “Save Wular.”
IG Yadav said that the BSF, in close coordination with the Army, is dominating the LoC and has successfully foiled two infiltration attempts so far this year.
“We are using advanced surveillance equipment and remain committed to safeguarding the LoC as well as the international borders in the region,” he said.
The IG BSF said that infiltration attempts typically increase in the months leading up to winter.
“Each year, before heavy snowfall begins, terrorists make desperate attempts to cross over, as movement becomes extremely difficult once snow covers the mountain passes. With nearly two months left until November, we anticipate such attempts and are fully prepared to counter them,” he said.
Highlighting the challenges ahead of the winter season, IG Yadav said, “The months before winter bring significant threats, but our forces are vigilant. We maintain a robust presence along the LoC and are ready to neutralize any infiltration bid.”
He confirmed that intelligence inputs suggest terrorists continue to receive training at launch pads across the border, particularly opposite Bandipora, Kupwara, and Baramulla sectors. “These activities are under constant surveillance. Terrorists are attempting to disturb peace here, but all such designs will be foiled,” he added.
Commenting on the evolving tactics of infiltrators, IG Yadav said foreign terrorists now rely on minimal communication, making intelligence gathering more challenging. “They adopt their own strategies, but our intelligence agencies meticulously analyse every small input, which helps in identifying hideouts and tracking movements,” he said.
The IG further said the BSF has adopted a multi-layered security strategy, which includes enhanced surveillance systems like thermal imaging, ground sensors, night patrols, and joint operations with the Army. “Inter-agency coordination has significantly strengthened our preparedness, ensuring that any infiltration attempts are met with strong response,” he said.
Earlier, he also unveiled the T-shirt for the upcoming Wular Half Marathon 2.0, scheduled to be held on October 12, 2025, under its social initiative “Save Wular.”
The unveiling ceremony was held at Hungul Officers’ Institute, Frontier Headquarters Humhama, where Inspector General BSF Kashmir Frontier, Ashok Yadav, IPS, launched the T-shirt in the presence of senior BSF officers, DIG Bandipora, civil dignitaries, and participants.
The marathon, titled “Save Wular Run with Bordermen,” is aimed at spreading awareness about the conservation of Wular Lake while encouraging greater participation of locals, athletes, and BSF personnel.
