Srinagar, Jan 18: In continuation to the Congress party’s nationwide “MGNREGA Bachao Sangram” campaign, the District Congress Committee Srinagar, under the leadership of DCC President Dr. Audil Farooq Mir (Lasjan), organised a well-attended public mobilisation programme at Panchayat Soiteng, Administrative Block Srinagar, Organisation Block Amira Kadal.

The programme witnessed an enthusiastic turnout of party workers and local residents, who collectively rallied behind two pivotal causes: safeguarding the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) and strengthening the “Hamari Riyasat, Hamara Haq” movement, which seeks the restoration of full statehood to Jammu and Kashmir.

Addressing the gathering, Dr. Audil Farooq Mir expressed serious concern over what he termed as deliberate attempts to dilute and undermine MGNREGA, one of the country’s most vital social security legislations that ensures livelihood support to millions of rural households, including thousands of vulnerable families in Jammu and Kashmir.

The programme also resonated strongly with the demand for statehood restoration under the “Hamari Riyasat, Hamara Haq” campaign. Dr. Audil described the movement as a legitimate and pressing call for the revival of Jammu and Kashmir’s constitutional dignity through the reinstatement of full statehood.

The event was attended by senior party leaders including Block President Fayaz Ahmad Mir, Working Block President Waseem Mir, Block Secretary Younis Mir, and Organizer Irfan, along with a large number of Congress activists and local residents, all of whom reaffirmed their commitment to the twin causes articulated during the programme.

“MGNREGA is not merely a welfare scheme; it is a lifeline for our rural workforce. Any move to weaken or erode this hard-earned right will be firmly opposed by the Congress party and the people of Jammu and Kashmir alike. We remain unwavering in our resolve to protect the livelihoods and dignity of our workers,” Dr. Audil said.

Highlighting the urgency of restoring statehood, he further stated, “The people of Jammu and Kashmir deserve nothing short of full statehood with complete constitutional rights. This is not a partisan or political demand. it is a democratic entitlement that has been unjustly taken away. Our struggle will remain peaceful, persistent, and principled until justice is delivered.”

The campaign was further strengthened through an extensive door-to-door outreach programme across Block Srinagar Amira Kadal, during which Congress leaders engaged directly with residents, distributed informational pamphlets and sensitised common citizens about the importance of protecting MGNREGA and the imperative of restoring full statehood to Jammu and Kashmir.

The grassroots initiative aimed at raising public awareness, building collective consciousness and mobilising widespread support for the twin campaigns was received well at the community level.
