JAMMU, Oct 16: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Thursday announced the resumption of traditional bi-annual Darbar Move practice after the gap of more than four years. Addressing a press conference, the Chief Minister, said that the cabinet has given nod for the revival of the century-old practice. “The file was sent to the Lieutenant Governor and has been approved. The government is reviving the practice soon,” he said. The Cabinet had recommended a return to the full-fledged Darbar Move in September this year. Meanwhile, Omar Abdullah also reiterated the demand for the restoration of statehood to Jammu and Kashmir, expressing hope that the central government will fulfill this demand soon. Addressing Mehbooba Mufti’s statement about supporting PDP’s bills, he said, “This is the prerogative of the House and the Speaker. The Speaker of the Assembly has to decide on the passage of bills.” The CM further added, “Neither I nor Mehbooba Mufti can decide on the passage of bills. Let the bills be introduced in the Assembly, and the Speaker will take the call.” When asked about the Rajya Sabha elections, Omar said, “I expect Mehbooba’s party to vote in our favor. ”Regarding Sajjad Lone, Omar remarked that Lone must answer to the people for not participating in the Rajya Sabha elections. “We have requested Sajjad Lone to be part of the Rajya Sabha elections, as his absence would effectively mean support to the BJP,” Omar said. “If he chooses not to participate, then he has to answer to the people.” On questions about Assembly by-elections, Omar stated that talks are ongoing with the Congress Party. “Discussions with the Congress for the Nagrota seat are underway, and we are ready to support a candidate with a strong chance of winning,” the Chief Minister added.
