Jammu, Nov 12: Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), Jammu & Kashmir Branch Office (JKBO), on Wednesday organized a two-day Capsule Course Training Program for Quality Control Personnel of steel manufacturing units on November 11 & 12, 2025 at BIS Jammu Office.
The training aimed to enhance the technical competence of quality control officials in implementing and maintaining standards related to steel products. The focus of the program was on IS 14650, IS 1786, and IS 2062, which cover key requirements for various categories of steel used in construction, structural applications, and reinforcement.
Shri Tilak Raj, Director and Head (Scientist-E) BIS-JKBO, inaugurated the program and welcomed all the participants. In his inaugural address, he emphasized the importance of following Indian Standards to ensure the quality, safety, and reliability of steel products being manufactured in the region. He also underlined BIS’s commitment to working closely with industry stakeholders to promote a culture of standardization and quality consciousness.
Shri Pankaj Atri, Joint Director (Scientist-D), BIS-JKBO, made a comprehensive technical presentation on steel standards, explaining the specifications, testing procedures, and certification requirements. He elaborated on the significance of conformity assessment and quality control in ensuring compliance with BIS norms. Shri Atri also encouraged participants to download and use the BIS Care App to verify ISI-marked products and lodge feedback or grievances related to quality.
The session witnessed active participation from quality control professionals and representatives from several leading steel industries across Jammu and adjoining areas.
Participants appreciated the initiative of BIS in conducting such informative and interactive training programs which help in strengthening the overall quality ecosystem. The program concluded with an interactive session and distribution of participation certificates to all attendees.
