Srinagar, Nov 24: All Parties Sikh Coordination Committee (APSCC) Chairman Jagmohan Singh Raina Monday expressed satisfaction over the commemoration of the 350th Shaheedi Diwas of the 9th Sikh Guru, Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji, both at the governmental and non-governmental levels. He said that the Yatras being taken out in his memory across the country reflect people’s desire to spread the Guru’s teachings far and wide. In a statement issued here, the APSCC Chairman said it was heartening to see the central government, along with the Punjab and Jammu and Kashmir governments, take every step to mark the Shaheedi Diwas of Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji. He appreciated the support extended by those at the helm. “It is good that the governments extended their support for the successful commemoration of the Shaheedi Diwas. Since the issue is purely religious, it is important that politics is kept away from it and hopefully the politicians will do the same,” Raina said. He added that Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji was a true human being who always championed human rights. The Guru played a pivotal role in ensuring that a large number of Hindus were not forced to convert their religion during the Mughal rule. Raina said the Guru’s contribution ultimately led to the decline of the Mughal Empire. Shaheedi Diwas marks the martyrdom of Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji at the hands of Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb for defending the religious freedom and human rights of others.
