Srinagar, April 26: Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) General Secretary Mohammad Khurshid Alam on Sunday chaired a party convention and preparatory meeting at Ward Kathi Darwaza in the Khanyar Assembly segment, calling for stronger grassroots engagement and organisational unity.
The meeting was attended by several senior leaders and party workers, including Noor Mohammad Sheikh, Arif Laigaroo, Dr Ali Mohammad, Sheikh Saba, Khalid Mir, Mohammad Shafi Kundanghar, Tufail Bhat, Mohammad Yasin Meirajudin and Wasim, who addressed the gathering.
Speaking on the occasion, Alam stressed the need to reinforce the party’s base at the grassroots level. He urged workers to actively engage with people across constituencies, saying a strong organisational structure is essential for meaningful political work.
“A party that loses touch with its roots loses its very reason for existence,” Alam said, calling on cadres to reach out to every section of society and build lasting trust with the public.
Referring to the leadership of Mehbooba Mufti, he said the PDP must function not just as a political party but as a movement rooted among the people, translating its agenda into action on the ground.
Alam also emphasised that raising public issues remains central to the party’s mission. He reiterated that the PDP would continue to advocate for the rights and concerns of the people, describing it as a core responsibility.
Criticising the current administration, Alam alleged a growing disconnect between governance and the challenges faced by ordinary citizens. He said people were dealing with multiple hardships while their concerns were not being adequately addressed.
