Srinagar, Feb 20: The Food Safety Department (FSD) Srinagar of the Drug and Food Control Organisation (DFCO) on Friday seized approximately 725 kilograms of unlabelled honey from the Abanshah area of HMT.
Acting on specific inputs, the enforcement team led by Assistant Commissioner FSD Srinagar Yameen Ul Nabi conducted an inspection in the locality and found a large quantity of honey stored without mandatory statutory labelling as required under the Food Safety and Standards (FSS) Act.
Officials said the seized stock lacked essential labelling details, including the product name, net quantity, date of packing or manufacturing, best-before or expiry date, name and address of the manufacturer or packer, FSSAI license number, and storage instructions.
“The entire stock has been seized on the spot for violation of labelling norms under the FSS Act. Samples have also been collected and sent for analytical examination to ascertain the quality and safety of the product,” Yameen said.
The department issued a strict warning to food business operators, stating that sale or storage of unlabelled food products is illegal and poses serious health risks to consumers.
“Every packaged food item must carry complete details, including the manufacturer’s name, date of packing, use-by date and FSSAI license number. Non-compliance will invite strict legal action,” the official added.
