Srinagar, Feb 20: The Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Friday informed the Legislative Assembly that a 6.3 MVA Receiving Station is currently under construction at Qamar, Dudwagan, aimed at enhancing power supply reliability in the Upper Kapran belt.
He said that this project is anticipated to be commissioned by June 2026, subject to the saturation of smart metering.
Responding to a query raised by legislature Nizamuddin Bhat on behalf of MLA Dooru G.A. Mir, the Chief Minister stated that the current power supply to the Upper Kapran area is being maintained as per the approved Load Curtailment Programme (LCP) from the 2x6.3 MVA Receiving Station at Nowgam Chowgund through the 11 kV Kapran feeder. The Qamar Receiving Station's major works have been executed, with a cumulative expenditure of Rs 293.44 lakh incurred so far against the approved revised cost of Rs 427.63 lakh.
The Chief Minister highlighted that the commissioning of the receiving station has been delayed primarily due to Right of Way (RoW) issues encountered during the installation of the 33 kV line from the Receiving Station at Nowgam Chowgund and the laying of 11 kV feeders. During the current financial year 2025–26, an amount of Rs 85.00 lakh was earmarked for the project, out of which Rs 72.25 lakh has been released and fully utilised.
The house was further informed that the project aims to ensure reliable power supply to the Upper Kapran belt, contingent upon consumers maintaining usage within agreed collective load limits. The Chief Minister's statement underscores the government's efforts to improve power infrastructure in the region. The Qamar Receiving Station is expected to significantly enhance power supply reliability, benefiting the local population and supporting economic activities in the area.
CM further revealed that the delay in commissioning the receiving station is attributed to challenges in acquiring Right of Way for the transmission lines, a common issue in infrastructure projects. Despite these challenges, the government remains committed to completing the project, which will provide a more stable and reliable power supply to the Upper Kapran belt.
The development of the Qamar Receiving Station reflects the government's focus on strengthening power infrastructure to meet growing demand and support regional development. Upon completion, the project is expected to have a positive impact on the local community, enhancing their quality of life and facilitating economic growth, the house was informed.
