Srinagar, Aug 10: In preparation of the upcoming Independence Day, stringent security arrangements have been put in place throughout Jammu and Kashmir. Additional deployment of security personnel along highways and critical road intersections to thwart any potential untoward incidents, police on Friday said.
A senior police officer, speaking on condition of anonymity, revealed that all security arrangements have been finalized in preparation for the Independence Day celebrations.
“The deployment of troops along highways and key junctions has been completed. Multiple checkpoints have been established along the Srinagar-Jammu highway to closely monitor commuter movement. Rigorous frisking procedures are being carried out at significant points along the highway,” he said.
To counter emerging security challenges, special teams have been entrusted with the responsibility of monitoring drone activities along the NH44 route. For continuous surveillance of major highways, security forces will employ Mobile Bunker Vehicles (MBVs) equipped with state-of-the-art 360-degree cameras.
Meanwhile, dog squads and counter-IED equipment have been deployed, and aerial surveillance will be conducted using drones during the ongoing Amarnath Yatra.
The police official stressed the importance of increased vigilance and alertness among officers to counteract the intentions of anti-national and anti-social elements. Notably, the Poonch and Rajouri sectors have witnessed an additional deployment of security forces to ensure the prevention of any potential disturbances in the region.
In a concerted effort, both the police and paramilitary troops have ramped up patrolling, vehicle inspections, and frisking at various sensitive locations in Srinagar and across the wider region.
Earlier this week, DGP Dilbag Singh chaired a joint meeting attended by officers from Jammu Zone Police and Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs). During this meeting, he emphasized the imperative of close coordination among all officers to guarantee secure and incident-free Independence Day celebrations.
