Bandipora, Apr 27: A road in the Nusoo area of north Kashmir’s Bandipora district was damaged due to a landslide caused by incessant rainfall. Two houses were also partially damaged.
Deputy Commissioner Bandipora told Rising Kashmir that an immediate response was launched after the landslide and the officials reached the spot to assess the situation. He said the landslide occurred at around 11 pm Wednesday, damaging the main road near renowned Darul Uloom Raheemiyah.
A team of officers led by Tehsildar Bandipora, Shiekh Tariq, SHO Bandipora, and other officials of R&B, PDD and other departments, were deployed to assess the situation, and as a precautionary measure, some families living in the area were relocated to safer locations, he said, adding that the administration has stopped traffic on the damaged road and advised the commuters to take Nowpora-Nusoo route via the main market for travel.
DC Bandipora also said that at least two houses were partially damaged by the landslide. He, however, added that there were no reports of any loss of life.
The vehicular movement was halted on the road, and residents have been urged to exercise caution and avoid crossing the road, the DC said, adding that the situation is being monitored and a dedicated control room has been set up in the district for people’s assistance.
Meanwhile, heavy rains have caused damage to a playfield in the Dardapora area of the district. According to locals, a portion of the playfield’s wall was damaged.
