Baramulla, August 01: In an ongoing operation against drug peddling, police in Baramulla registered 198 cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act during the first seven months of the current year.
A total of 305 drug peddlers have been apprehended, with properties worth lakhs attached to the drug smugglers.
According to a police official, out of the 305 detained, 45 were identified as the most wanted drug smugglers, emphasizing the effectiveness of the operation.
“Additionally, 35 habitual drug peddlers have been booked under the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (PIT- NDPS/PSA),” he said.
The official said that the police have managed to seize contraband worth 11 Crores, 71 Lacs and 64 thousands in the black market including cash.
Further, Baramulla Police has taken strict action against drug smugglers’ ill-gotten gains, attaching properties valued at 68.05 lakhs.
“The attached properties include two houses, two vehicles, and cash amounting to Rs. 41.72 lakhs in Pattan, Kreeri, and Kamalkote.”
The seriousness of the operation has been underscored by the confirmation of property attachment orders by SAFEM (FOP) A & NDPSA, New Delhi, pertaining to illegally acquired property by drug smugglers in Pattan and Kreeri, where a house and a vehicle were seized.
