In 5 days, Covid-19 cases double in J&K

Srinagar, Apr 13: Covid-19 cases have doubled in Jammu and Kashmir in the past five days as 153 cases, a record rise, were reported on Thursday taking the number of active positive cases to 626 while 4,331 tests were conducted in the last 24 hours.
The official figures revealed that on April 08, J&K had reported 77 daily cases which have increased to 153 till today (April 13).
As per the media bulletin issued by the Jammu and Kashmir government, of the 153 new cases, 91 are from Kashmir division and 62 are from Jammu division.
It said that the total number of active cases in Jammu and Kashmir have increased to 626 including 347 from Kashmir division and 279 from Jammu division.
Of the fresh 153 cases reported today, 24 are from Kulgam, 17 from Srinagar, 15 from Baramulla, nine from Ganderbal, seven from Budgam, six from Anantnag, five each from Pulwama, Anantnag, two from Kupwara and one from Shopian.
In the Jammu division, the fresh cases reported today include 40 from Jammu, seven from Kishtwar, four each from Udhampur, Rajouri, three from Doda, two from Poonch and one each from Kathua and Ramban.
As per the media bulletin, 56 Covid-19 patients have recovered today including 35 from Kashmir division and 21 from Jammu division.
It said all the 626 active cases are either in-home or hospital quarantine. It added that 71 persons are under home surveillance.
Covid-19 cases in Jammu and Kashmir started surging on April 02 when the Union Territory reported 19 fresh Covid-19 cases.
On April 03 also, J&K saw a major jump of 40 fresh cases. Similarly, on April 04, J&K reported 31 cases and 48 cases on April 05. On April 06, 58 cases were reported.
Similarly, on April 07 J&K again saw the highest-ever caseload of 95 cases. Also, 77 cases were reported on April 08 and 64 cases on April 09. Similarly, 50 cases were reported on April 10, 97 cases on April 11 and 122 cases on April 12. Officials said no death was reported due to Covid-19 and admissions in hospitals are going up.
Official figures said in the last 24 hours a total of 4,331 Covid-19 tests were conducted across testing labs in Jammu and Kashmir.
On April 10, hospitals in Jammu and Kashmir held the Covid-19 mock drill for an emergency response to ensure medical equipment and other infrastructure are functioning properly.
The health department has also tightened Covid preparedness measures following reports of fresh infection surges in the UT while hospitals have been alerted.
Earlier, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare had advised all the states and Union Territories to effectively implement a five-fold strategy of test, track, treat, follow Covid-19 appropriate behaviour and vaccinate to check the spread.
