Srinagar, Jan 4: In a remarkable surge, the Gulmarg Gondola, managed by the J&K Cable Car Corporation, has not only soared to new heights in revenue but has also delighted more than a million tourists in the past year, earning a staggering Rs. 108 crore.
The Gondola, situated at an impressive altitude of 14,000 ft, stands as Asia’s highest operating cable car and is a flagship attraction for Kashmir tourism.
The 2023 figures reveal a substantial increase compared to the previous year, with revenue leaping from Rs. 91 crore to an impressive Rs. 108 crore, and tourist rides escalating from 8.50 lakh to over a million.
Apart from the financial success, the Corporation dedicated efforts to enhance service delivery, introducing improvements to the ticket issuing mechanism and conducting thorough safety tests.
The second phase of the Gondola underwent a technological overhaul, reinforcing its status as India’s most popular ropeway.
Tourists, both international and domestic, have been effusive in their praise for the Gondola experience.
Visitors like Akshay from London and a family from Delhi commended the seamless booking process and the surreal journey. Shubham and Ajat, a first-time visitor couple, were fascinated by the meticulous arrangements and sanitation at both phases of the Gondola.
Managing Director of J&K Cable Car Corporation, Raja Yaqoob, urged tourists to opt for online ticket purchases for convenience, time-saving, and to curb potential black-market activities.
Yaqoob expressed the Corporation’s commitment to improving the overall tourist experience, emphasizing easy, hassle-free, and safe rides. He reassured tourists of ongoing efforts to provide even better facilities in the future, with feedback being taken seriously and improvements made accordingly.
As the Gulmarg Gondola continues to elevate the tourism experience, Yaqoob appealed to tourists to adhere to specified timings mentioned on tickets to ensure a seamless and enjoyable journey.
The success story of the Gulmarg Gondola seems poised for further heights, promising tourists an unforgettable adventure amidst the breathtaking landscapes of Kashmir.
