Illegal mining: Police seize 14 vehicles, arrest 8 persons in Ganderbal, Kulgam

Ganderbal, Jul 16: Police on Wednesday seized six tippers allegedly involved in unlawful mining and transportation of minerals across different locations in Ganderbal district.A police spokesperson said the vehicles were intercepted during routine patrolling and intelligence-based operations carried out by teams from Police Station Ganderbal. The crackdown comes as part of the district police’s intensified efforts to rein in unauthorised mining, which continues to pose serious environmental and economic concerns.He said the seized vehicles were being used for transporting minerals. “The operations were based on actionable inputs, and the seizures were made from spots where illegal mining activity was suspected,” the spokesperson said.Authorities have also warned of strict action against those found aiding or abetting illegal extraction.Police have urged residents to cooperate and report any such illegal activity. “We are committed to protecting our natural resources and will not allow such violations to go unchecked,” the statement added.Meanwhile, police in Kulgam have intensified efforts to combat illegal mining activities and have seized eight vehicles used in illegal extraction and transportation of minerals. They arrested eight persons involved in the commission of the crime.”Acting tough against the persons involved in illegal extraction and transportation of minerals, a police party headed by SHO Police Station Qaimoh seized 6 Dumpers and 2 tippers bearing registration numbers JK14B-5645, JK03B-2234, JK03G-3214, JK05F-7211, JK03L-4788, JK19A-2088, JK13J-7160 and JK13D-8811 and arrested eight drivers,” the spokesperson said. He said cases vide FIR No.’s 52, 53 & 54/2025 under relevant sections of law have been registered in Police Station Qaimoh, adding that further investigation is going on in all cases.Ganderbal, Jul 16: Police on Wednesday seized six tippers allegedly involved in unlawful mining and transportation of minerals across different locations in Ganderbal district.A police spokesperson said the vehicles were intercepted during routine patrolling and intelligence-based operations carried out by teams from Police Station Ganderbal.
