Jammu, Jan 18: Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Jammu, in collaboration with Natrang Jammu, on Sunday presented a grand dance spectacle titled “Colours of India” at the Mandapam Auditorium, Jammu.  As per a statement issued here, the mega presentation, featuring nearly 150 performers, celebrated India’s rich cultural mosaic through an impressive array of traditional dance forms from across the country, including Kashmiri, Punjabi, Rajasthani, Gujarati, Marathi, Haryanvi and several vibrant South Indian traditions. The programme began with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp by Director IIM Jammu, Prof. B. S. Sahay, along with Padma Balwant Thakur, Director Natrang Jammu, and senior faculty members of the institute. Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Sahay underscored the transformative power of the performing arts, stressing their vital role in nurturing soft skills, shaping mindsets and developing leadership qualities essential for effective management. He noted that engagement with the arts fosters innovative thinking and the ability to move beyond conventional approaches, enabling management students to address complex business challenges with confidence, empathy and creativity. Through “Colours of India”, the diversity of the nation unfolded vividly on stage, with each region expressing its unique identity through distinctive movements, rhythms, costumes and emotions. From powerful, energetic steps celebrating harvest and community life to gentle, flowing movements rooted in spirituality and devotion, the performances reflected India’s varied landscapes, languages and belief systems. Vibrant costumes embellished with mirrors, silk, paint and intricate embroidery added a visual splendour, while diverse musical patterns revealed the depth of local histories and traditions. Together, these contrasting yet harmonious styles formed a living tableau of India—one nation enriched by countless cultures moving to their own rhythms. Addressing the gathering, Padma Balwant Thakur said that “Colours of India” offered students a meaningful opportunity to understand and experience the strength and richness of their respective cultures. He observed that the exposure to a wide spectrum of dance forms was both engaging and educative, providing ample scope for students to innovate, collaborate and imbibe leadership qualities through collective artistic expression.
