Srinagar, Oct 16: Over 200 science teachers from Srinagar schools participated in the “Ignite STEM Passion” upskilling workshop hosted by CSIR–IIIM Srinagar under the “CSIR Jigyasa” outreach programme, in collaboration with Compassionship Edu-Tech Foundation (CET Foundation) and supported by the J&K School Education Department on Thursday. As per a statement issued here, the educator-centric initiative focused on classroom-ready strategies for critical thinking, climate change literacy, robotics, and artificial intelligence, aligning with NEP 2020 goals to make learning more inquiry-driven and experiential. The workshop was convened by Dr. A.P. Jayaraman, eminent nuclear scientist and Mentor, CET Foundation. RN Sharma, Secretary, School Education Department, J&K, graced the event as Chief Guest, alongside Er. Abdul Rahim, Head, CSIR–IIIM Srinagar. R.N. Sharma said: “We welcome these outcomes and will reflect them in curriculum updates—especially on climate and disaster management.” Dr. A.P. Jayaraman remarked, “When teachers model scientific temper and evidence-based practice, children grow into conscious, climate-aware citizens.” Er. Abdul Rahim added, “Our labs and scientists are open to schools—so science becomes a lived experience, not just a chapter.” The sessions offered practical tools that teachers could apply immediately. They focused on critical thinking and science communication, classroom projects on climate change and disaster management, and hands-on integration of robotics and AI without the need for advanced labs. “Every session translated into Monday-morning practice,” said a participating teacher. “We are leaving with evidence-based strategies, not extra burden.” Dr. Jayaraman’s session covered global benchmarks like PISA, NGSS and NEP, along with live demonstrations and creativity exercises to strengthen assessment literacy. Mr. Rajesh George from NanoSkool introduced modular, plug-and-play robotics kits and block-based coding for seamless classroom integration. Akhil and Vivek from SciAstra showcased how AI can simplify grading, lesson planning and content creation through tools such as Magic School, Canva, GPT-Zero, Gamma, Consensus and AudioPen. Er. Sandeep Tripathi demonstrated how teachers can use machine learning and generative AI tools to enhance teaching efficiency and remain relevant in digital classrooms. Dr. Shahid Rasool, Principal Scientist at CSIR–IIIM Jammu, provided an overview of climate change trends in the Himalayas and guided teachers on initiating school-level climate audits and awareness drives. The “Ignite STEM Passion” workshop left participants inspired to make science teaching more practical, creative and future-ready—bridging classrooms with real-world innovation
