Anantnag, Sept 15: National Conference (NC) leader and Member of Parliament (MP) from Srinagar, Aga Ruhullah Mehdi said on Sunday that he still hopes that Awami Ittehad Party (AIP) president Engineer Rashid will “vehemently fight” the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) with the same enthusiasm and words with which he is fighting others. He also questioned who Er Rashid is currently supporting if not the INDIA alliance.
Mehdi made these remarks while addressing reporters after holding a roadshow in the Bijbehara Constituency in support of the alliance candidate, Dr Bashir Ahmad Veeri. He also addressed a gathering at Nussu in Qazigund for the Alliance candidate Abdul Majeed Larmi in the Anantnag West Constituency.
Responding to a question about Er Rashid’s statement that he would support the INDIA alliance if its candidates promise to pass a resolution on Article 370, Ruhullah said, “Who are they supporting at the moment? They should be asked this question. If they are not supporting the INDIA alliance, who are they supporting? I had hoped that when Er Rashid stepped out, he would fight the BJP. I still hope he will vehemently fight the BJP with the same enthusiasm and words he uses to fight others.”
On Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s claim that dynastic politics has ruined J&K for 70 years and that terrorism is on its last legs, the MP said, “It is for the people of J&K to decide what has ruined what. The people of J&K have the democratic right to choose, to vote for whoever they want and vote against whoever they want.”
Aga added, “The propaganda and lies of (Home Minister) Amit Shah and his entire regime and ecosystem have been heard throughout the country, but people do not listen to his ‘lies’ and ‘propaganda.’ It is not taken seriously in Kashmir. Regarding militancy, it has spread to areas where it was previously unheard of.”
“It is unprecedented to see militancy-related incidents occurring in areas that were relatively calm. So, it’s not ending; it’s spreading, unfortunately. They should be very worried about the security situation in J&K, as militancy is spreading to areas that were previously peaceful,” MP Ruhullah added.
