Srinagar, Oct 19: The Jammu and Kashmir Police on Wednesday claimed that the arrested hybrid terrorist, who was behind the killing of two Uttar Pradesh labourers, was killed during anti-terrorist operation in Nowgam area of south Kashmir’s Shopian district.
In a tweet, Kashmir Zone police said “Based on the disclosure of arrested hybrid terrorist and in continuous raids by police and security forces, another contact has been established between terrorists and SFs at Nowgam, Shopian, in which hybrid terrorist Imran Bashir Ganaie (was) killed by firing of another terrorist.”
The move comes two days after two labourers from Uttar Pradesh were killed after terrorists lobbed a grenade towards their rented accommodation in Hermian Shopian.
Following the incident, police claimed to have arrested hybrid terrorist Imran Bashir along with his associate.
A police spokesman said post the terror incident at Hermian Shopian in the intervening night of 17/18 October, in which two outside labourers were killed by terrorists, investigation into the terror crime was immediately started.
“During the course of the investigation, it was revealed that the grenade at the accommodation of the labourers was thrown by one LeT hybrid terrorist Imran Bashir Ganie of Hermain Shopian,” he said.
The spokesman said hybrid terrorist along with his accomplice was promptly arrested within hours of the terror crime.
“Police along with Security Forces launched on the basis of disclosures made by the accused about terrorists and their hideouts,” he said.
The spokesman said in one of the raids on hideout at Dongri Nala near Landoora bridge, where although contact was established with the hiding terrorists but they managed to escape from the spot after initial fire.
“Following his disclosure, another raid was conducted in Nowgam orchards of Shopian where he had earlier met with other terrorists responsible for his recruitment in terror ranks besides providing a grenade to him,” he said.
The spokesman said a joint anti-terrorist operation was launched in the area in midnight at about 2:30 am after the accused (Ganaie) agreed to show the exact place of the hideout in the orchards.
“During the search operation, the hiding terrorists fired upon the joint search party, in which arrested ‘hybrid terrorist’ who was accompanying and leading the search party for identifying the place was injured,” he said.
The spokesman claimed that ‘slain was shifted to hospital where he was declared brought dead.
“Taking advantage of the darkness, terrorists managed to escape from the spot. Incriminating materials, arms and ammunition have been recovered from the spot. All the recovered materials have been taken into case records for further investigation,” he said.
