Budgam, July 06: Thousands of mourners on Sunday participated in Muharram processions in the main Budgam district headquarters and others areas of the district to honour the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Hussain (AS) and his companions. This day is commemorated annually on the 10th of Muharram to recognize the ultimate sacrifice made by Imam Hussain and his 72 companions at Karbala in their quest to uphold the truth.Alam and Zuljanah processions were conducted across various districts within Budgam.Mourners were observed carrying banners and chanting slogans in reverence of Imam Hussain (AS) and his companions, who laid down their lives at Karbala approximately 1,400 years ago, after refusing to pledge allegiance to the tyrannical Umayyad ruler, Yazid.Additionally, Sunni Muslims organized Ijtimas at local Masjids, where clerics elaborated on the teachings of Imam Hussain (AS) and recounted the events of Karbala.Volunteers set up Sabeels at various locations, distributing water and juice to the Azadars. Furthermore, free juice and water were also provided to the people in their respective areas across the Budgam district, as well as in Tangmarg and Pattan, to honour the martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain (AS) and his companions during the Battle of Karbala. The District Administration of Budgam along with the  Budgam police, ensured that arrangements were in place throughout the district for the procession.Deputy Commissioner of Budgam, Dr. Bilal Mohi-ud-Din Bhat , along with SSP Budgam Nikhal Borkar, also participated in the procession at the Main Budgam headquarters. He also conducted a comprehensive review and on-spot assessment of arrangements at Behishte Zehra Park Budgam -a key congregation site for mourners in the district..During the inspection, the DC interacted with concerned officers and took stock of the facilities being put in place to ensure a smooth and peaceful conduct of the Aashoora procession. He emphasised the need for inter-departmental coordination and timely completion of all preparatory measures. The DC issued a series of on-the-spot directives to the departments involved. Meanwhile, The District Administration Budgam has also  appealed to the general public, especially participants of the Aashoora procession, to extend full cooperation with the authorities and adhere to all issued guidelines for observance of the day.
