Higher reaches receive light snowfall

Srinagar, Oct 11: Higher reaches of Kashmir on Tuesday experienced another light spell of snowfall, while the weathermen forecasted significant improvement in prevailing conditions from Wednesday onward.
Ski resort, Gulmarg in north Kashmir recorded 1 to 2 inches of fresh snowfall on Tuesday, 2 inches in Machil sector, 1to 2 inches Zojila-Drass highway, and 3 inches of snow was accumulated at Peer Ki Gali, Z-Gali, Razdan and Sadhna Top.
The weathermen have forecasted significant improvement in present weather conditions from Saturday onward.
Deputy Director of Indian Meteorological Centre Kashmir, Mukhtar Ahmad told Rising Kashmir that higher reaches of Gulmarg, Peer Ki Gali, Pahalgam, and other ranges received light snowfall and rainfall on Tuesday.
“There is a possibility of light to moderate rain, snow over higher reaches of J&K including south Kashmir and at scattered places of Jammu.
“The prevailing weather conditions are likely to continue for another three to four hours and decrease in rainfall likely thereafter,” he said, adding that on Wednesday weather will be partly to generally cloudy with the possibility of light rain at scattered places in the region.
Mukhtar said after the 13th onwards, the weather will remain mainly dry and clear. There is no prediction of heavy rainfall or snowfall in the region till October 19th, he said.
He said in the coming days, there will be a slight decrease in day temperatures in the Valley and evenings will be colder.
On Tuesday, Srinagar recorded 24.5 degrees Celsius and the minimum temperature at 9.4 degrees Celsius.
Ski-resort Gulmarg in Baramulla district recorded 13 degrees Celsius maximum temperature while the minimum temperature was recorded at 3.5 degrees.
Health resort Pahalgam recorded 19.4°C, and Qazigund 24.6°C respectively.
Kupwara in north Kashmir was the hottest place in Kashmir recording maximum temperatures of 26.7 °C, while minimum temperatures settled at 7.1 °C respectively.
