Srinagar, Oct 19: Higher reaches experienced fresh snowfall, while light rain lashed some parts of Kashmir on Wednesday. The Meteorological Department predicted improvement in prevailing weather conditions from October 21st, officials said.
Ski resort Gulmarg in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district, Gurez in Bandipora, Machil in Kupwara, Tangdar, and Sonamarg in Ganderbal, received light snowfall till late Wednesday night, while isolated rains lashed some areas in plains in the Valley.
Scores of tourists thronged to Gulmarg as the region experienced a fresh spell of snowfall.
Director Indian Meteorological Centre Kashmir, Sonam Lotus told Rising Kashmir that higher reaches of Kupwara, Baramulla Bandipora, Ganderbal Shopian, and other places experienced snowfall on Wednesday evening and plains received light rains.
“We are expecting light snowfall over high reaches from the 19th evening to October 20th. There will be a gradual improvement in prevailing weather conditions from Thursday afternoon,” he said.
Lotus said there is no forecast of any major snowfall for the next 7-10 days in the J&K and Ladakh regions.
On Wednesday, following the decrease in day temperatures owing to cloudy weather conditions in the Valley, Srinagar recorded 23.0 degrees Celsius and the minimum temperature at 5.0 degrees Celsius.
Ski-resort Gulmarg in Baramulla district recorded 12.0 degrees Celsius maximum temperature while the minimum temperature was recorded at minus 0.4 degrees. It was the coldest place in Kashmir.
Health resort Pahalgam recorded 18.6°C and minimum 0.6 °C degrees. The gateway of Kashmir Qazigund recorded a maximum of 21.8°C.
Kupwara in north Kashmir recorded maximum temperatures of 24.5 °C, while minimum temperatures settled at 3.5 °C.
Mughal Road in south Kashmir’s Shopian district also received fresh snowfall along Pir ki Gali (PKG) prompting authorities to close the road connecting Kashmir with the Poonch-Rajouri districts in the Jammu region.
