Srinagar, Feb 16: The Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS) on Friday conducted a high-speed train trial between Khari-Sumbar and Sumbar to Sangaldan along the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL), officials said.
Northern Railways Spokesman told Rising Kashmir that Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS), Northern Circle, New Delhi, Dinesh Chand Deshwal along with other officials inspected high-speed trial of train between Khari-Sumbar-Sangaldan sections.
“After conducting statutory inspection for the opening of 33.42 KM Khari-Sumbar-Sangaldan new BG rail line on motor trolleys from Khari-Sumbar & Sangaldan Railway Stations, a high-speed trial of the section by special train was conducted today by the Commissioner of Railway Safety,” he said.
The spokesman said CRS and his team conducted a thorough examination of the recently constructed Khari-Sumbar (13.65 km) and Sumbar-Sangaldan (19.50 km) rail lines using motor trolleys.
He also said the train passed through the country’s longest railway tunnel T49 built on the USBRL rail link, a trial run successful.
On Thursday, CRS and his team also inspected track tunnels, bridges, electric traction installations, railway stations at Khari, and other infrastructures,” he said.
The Commissioner of Railway Safety was accompanied by Chief Administrative Officers (CAOs) of construction operations and concerned officers from Northern Railway, Firozpur Division.
“Meanwhile, construction activities on the remaining stretch of the railway is in full swing. Notably, the construction of the world’s highest arch bridge and cable stay bridge on this stretch has successfully completed.
Regarding electrification, he mentioned that work has been completed up to Sangaldan stations and the remaining portion will be completed by the end of this month.
Currently, train services are operational between Jammu and Udhampur, as well as Katra and Srinagar to Banihal in the Jammu division. With attention now focused on the remaining 111 km rail section to connect Banihal to Katra, the USBRL project aims to complete the extensive 272 km Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link.
