Pulwama, Apr 19: People’s Democratic Party (PDP) President Mehbooba Mufti on Friday urged people in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district to cast their vote for Waheed ur Parra, the party’s candidate for the Srinagar Parliamentary constituency.
She was addressing the people in the Rahmoo village of Pulwama during which the DDC member from the district, Javid Rahim Bhat, joined the party along with his supporters.
Mufti in her speech said the people of the area know Waheed and have earlier cast their vote for him as a DDC member.
“He represents the common youth of Kashmir who is seen with suspicion. He too was suspected and put in jail for two years,” she said, adding that people know under which conditions his ailing father left this world. “Waheed was not allowed to see his father,” she alleged.
The former chief minister alleged, “New Delhi government is eying our land and employment. Electricity bills are being persistently hiked and the quantity of ration provided to people has been reduced. No one is talking about prisoners lodged in different jails.”
The PDP chief accused New Delhi of striving to deprive people in Jammu and Kashmir of their land, resources and employment.
She urged people to cast their votes to send their voices to the parliament. “I don’t think that anybody can represent you in the parliament in a better way than Waheed,” she said. “He is one among you, from your area and known to you, you can hold him accountable so that on the polling day come out in his support.”
Meanwhile, according to a party statement issued here, Mufti said this Lok Sabha election is not merely about developmental issues such as electricity, water, and roads. “Instead, it is about addressing the onslaught on the dignity, identity, property, and resources of the region since 2019,” she said.
Parra in his address said Mehbooba Mufti’s victory is not just a party’s triumph but a voice for the common Kashmiri. “It is very important to have Mehbooba Mufti in the parliament. It is for Kashmir’s core identity and representation,” he said.
