After Delhi Chief Minister on Sunday announced to resign, National Conference President Farooq Abdullah lauded his decision and said Arvind Kejriwal is “not hungry for power.”

“He wants that elections should be held in Delhi and he wants to go among the people…He wants to go among the public so that they can decide and it is a good thing. He is not hungry for power,” the NC leader said.

Meanwhile, National Conference Vice President Omar Abdullah refused to comment of Kejriwal’s announcement and said, “Why is he resigning, will there be elections after his resignation or is he making someone else the Chief Minister, let the news come out and then we will talk about it.”

Earlier on Sunday, in a major move, Kejriwal said that he will resign from the position of Chief Minister after two days and won’t sit on the chair of CM, until the public of Delhi declares him “honest” by voting for him in the next assembly polls due in early next year.

He also said he would ask for early polls along with the state of Maharashtra.

Addressing the party workers at the AAP office, CM Arvind Kejriwal said, “I am going to resign from the CM position after two days. I will not sit on the CM chair until the people give their verdict. I will go to every house and street …Elections are after a few months. If you think Kejriwal is honest, then vote for me, I will take over as CM after the elections. If you think I am not, don’t vote. Your vote will be a certificate for my honesty.”

Kejriwal was released from Tihar Jail on Friday evening, hours after the Supreme Court granted him bail in a corruption case related to the alleged Delhi Excise Policy scam.

Meanwhile, Omar Abdullah accused People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Chief Mehbooba Mufti of bringing the BJP into JK.

“Mehbooba Mufti has brought nothing but destruction and ruin to Jammu and Kashmir. If anyone has played the biggest role in bringing BJP (in J&K) then it is PDP and its leadership…First of all, she should give an account of 2016…She has not apologised for bringing the BJP here. She has not apologised for pushing Jammu and Kashmir towards this destruction. Why is she targeting me?” he said.

He further hit out at Mufti for forming the government with an alliance with the BJP in 2016 and asked about the reason to go with the BJP.

“What was the compulsion to form an alliance with the BJP in 2016? We were ready to give them the government at that time. The National Conference and the Congress first sent their support to Mufti Sahab and after his death, to Mehbooba Mufti. Why did they reject it? What was their weakness that they had to go with the BJP,” the NC Vice President said.

In 2016, after the death of then CM Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, Mehbooba Mufti met Prime Minister Narendra Modi and took oath as the first woman chief minister of the state in an alliance with the BJP. (ANI)
