Srinagar, June 23: Kashmir is witnessing hot and dry weather conditions for the past two weeks, summer capital Srinagar on Friday recorded the season’s hottest day with the mercury touching 35 °C. It is the highest temperature in the month of June in the past 5 years in the Himalayan region.
Director Meteorological Department Centre, Kashmir Sonam Lotus told Rising Kashmir that Srinagar recorded the hottest day of the season at 35 degrees Celsius after a gap of 5 years. The same temperatures were recorded in June 2018.
He said previous records of maximum temperature in the month of June for Srinagar is 35° C which was recorded on 3rd June 2018, While the all times highest maximum temperature recorded was 37.8°C on 29th June 1978, Lotus said.
He said on Saturday people will get relief from the heat wave and the weather will remain generally cloudy with light rain, and thunderstorms at scattered places in Jammu and a few places of the Kashmir division.
Similarly from 25th-28th June, the weather will be cloudy. There are chances of intermittent light to moderate thundershowers at many places. Few places over Jammu division may receive intense showers for a short period, he added. The MeT has also issued a Yellow Alert in J&K in view of prevailing weather conditions.
As per MeT data, Srinagar recorded 35°C as the maximum temperature and 21°C as minimum temperature. Ski resort Gulmarg in north Kashmir was the coldest with a high of 25 degrees Celsius and 15.4 as minimum temperatures.
Health resort Pahalgam in south Kashmir recorded 30.2°C as maximum temperature and 10.6°C as the minimum temperature respectively. Jammu is witnessing hot and humid weather conditions and recorded at 38.4°C as maximum temperature and 30.2 as minimum temperatures
Kupwara in north Kashmir recorded maximum temperatures of 33.5°C. Banihal recorded 31.6°C as the maximum temperature and 21.2 as minimum temperature. In South Kashmir Pulwama, Anantnag & Kulgam recorded day temperatures at 33.0°C , 33.8°C & 32.8°C respectively, and Shopian recorded a day temperature of 36.1°C, the hottest place in Kashmir valley. Baramulla, Bandipora recorded today maximum temperatures of 33.0°C, 33.2°C respectively.
As per MeT data, during the week (16th June – 22nd June 2023) Jammu Region received 35.32% below normal rainfall and Kashmir Region received 74.21% below normal rainfall.
As per the traffic spokesman, on Saturday subject to fair weather and road clearance, LMVs Passenger/Private Cars shall be allowed from both sides on Jammu-Srinagar NHW viz Jammu towards Srinagar and vice-versa. TCU Jammu/Srinagar shall liaise with TCU Ramban before releasing the traffic.
Similarly, on Srinagar-Leh road, vehicular movement shall be allowed from both sides viz Srinagar towards Kargil and vice-versa. LMVs followed by HMVs shall be allowed from Minamarg towards Srinagar at 0600 hrs. to 1030 hrs.
“Similarly, LMVs followed by HMVs shall be allowed from Sonamarg towards Kargil at 1300 hrs to 1700 hrs. No vehicle shall be allowed after cut off timings,” the spokesman said.
On Mughal road, LMVs shall be allowed from both sides viz. Poonch towards Shopian and vice versa. However, HMVs shall be allowed from Shopian towards Poonch. These vehicles shall be allowed from Behramgalla (Buffliaz) and Herpora (Shopian) at 0800 hrs. upto 1600 hrs. No vehicle shall be allowed after cut off timings, the spokesman said.
