Srinagar, Sep 29: Keeping in mind the onset of “rutting of hangul,” Wildlife Warden, Central Division Srinagar has recommended for stopping the entry in the Dachigam National Park till October 18th.
In a communiqué addressed to Regional Wildlife Warden, Kashmir Region, the Central Division official said, “The rutting season of Hangul has started in Dachigam National Park.
“Since the matter is of sensitive nature. Therefore, to avoid any disturbance, it is recommended that permission to enter Dachigam National Park shall be stopped till 18th of October 2022”.
Dachigam National Park is best known as the home of the hangul, or Kashmir stag. Dachigam is open throughout the year, but the best time to visit is between April and August.
Dachigam National Park, located 22 km from Srinagar, is popular as the home of the rare and critically endangered Hangul or Kashmir stag. A former game preserve of the erstwhile Maharaja of Jammu and Kashmir, the park has been a protected area since 1910.
