The commendable performance of the Handwara Police in the year 2023 in their relentless efforts to combat the drug menace in the region. The dedicated team of officers has displayed exceptional commitment and achieved significant milestones in enforcing the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

According to a statement issued here, Throughout the year, the Handwara Police registered a total of 50 cases under the NDPS Act, demonstrating their proactive approach in addressing the illicit drug trade. Out of these cases, 48 were diligently challaned, ensuring legal actions against the offenders. This robust enforcement reflects the department’s commitment to upholding the rule of law and curbing the illegal drug trade within the community.

Moreover, the Handwara Police seized substances with an estimated value of one crore, underscoring their success in intercepting and preventing the distribution of narcotics. This significant haul not only disrupts the supply chain of illegal drugs but also serves as a deterrent to potential offenders.

In a bold move to tackle the roots of the drug trade, the Handwara Police also attached three properties with an estimated combined worth of 7 crores. This strategic approach aims to cripple the financial foundations of those involved in the illicit drug business, sending a clear message that the authorities will not tolerate such activities.

To raise awareness about the ongoing efforts to combat drug abuse, SSP Handwara emphasizes the collaborative role of the community in creating a safer and drug-free environment.
