Handwara, July 07: The streets of Handwara came alive as the Handwara Night Volleyball Tournament, popularly known as the “Handwara Cup 2023,” transformed the town into a vibrant and electrifying sports arena. Organized by Army Camp Bhagatpura, this thrilling event brought together volleyball enthusiasts, athletes, and local residents for an unforgettable evening of fierce competition and unity.
The Boys Higher Secondary School in Handwara served as the venue for the tournament, where floodlights illuminated the area, creating an enchanting atmosphere for both players and spectators. The opening ceremony was graced by distinguished guests, including Basheer Ah Khan, Chairman of the Municipal Committee, along with representatives from various organizations and institutions.
Eight teams showcased their talent and skill during the knockout phase on the first day of the tournament. On the second day, the highly anticipated semifinals took place. In the first semifinal, Friends Volleyball Club from Bandipura emerged victorious over Game Changers from Seeloo, while the local favorite, Spartan Kupwara, triumphed over Dudhipura Volleyball Club in a thrilling match. All matches were played as best-of-three sets, adding to the intensity of the competition.
After the gripping semifinal rounds, the tournament reached its climax with an exhilarating final match. The teams showcased their best skills, captivating the spectators with thrilling rallies and nail-biting finishes. In the end, Friends Volleyball Club emerged as the champions, defeating the home team, Spartans Kupwara. The atmosphere was filled with applause, cheers, and a strong sense of camaraderie as the outstanding performances were recognized. Food stalls offered delicious snacks and refreshments, ensuring that everyone remained energized throughout the event.
The winning team, Friends Volleyball Club, was awarded a cash prize of Rs 10,000, along with trophies and medals. The runners-up also received cash prizes, trophies, and medals. Danish Ahmed of Friends Bandipura was honored with the title of “Player of the Tournament” for his exceptional skills and contributions.
