Jammu, Feb 20: Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) President, Tariq Hameed Karra on Thursday accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of disrespecting the people’s mandate by failing to restore statehood to J&K.
He said ‘Hamari Riyasat Hamara Haq’ has become the voice of the people, adding that statehood is the core issue for J&K residents.
Addressing a press conference at the JKPCC headquarters here, Karra accused the BJP of misleading the people with false promises about restoring J&K’s statehood. He said Congress, during its ongoing campaign across Jammu province—including Udhampur, Poonch, Rajouri, Ramban, Doda and Kishtwar—had witnessed overwhelming public support for the demand.
He said there is a growing discontent among people in Jammu and Srinagar, who are struggling with irregular water supply despite being in so-called smart cities, while also being burdened with excessive taxes.
Karra vowed that the Congress party would take the ‘Hamari Riyasat, Hamara Haq’ movement to the grassroots level, mobilising people to demand their constitutional rights. “If statehood is not restored, the party would take to the streets in protest,” he warned.
