Srinagar, Mar 20: Chairman, Peoples Democratic Front (PDF) and former minister, Hakeem Muhammad Yaseen, has voiced serious concern over the escalating civilian casualties caused by attacks from a man-eater leopard in various areas of Khansahib, particularly in Simsaan and Yarikhah villages.
Yaseen mentioned recent incidents where a boy lost his life to a leopard attack in Simsaan village, with another boy sustaining serious injuries. Expressing concern over the repeated fatal attacks on civilians, he called upon the government to ramp up efforts and resources to address the menace posed by these wild animals roaming freely in Khansahib.
In a statement issued here, Yaseen said the residents are facing distress and are living in fear and anxiety, unable to sleep peacefully at night due to the looming threat of leopard attacks. “The safety and security of people’s lives must be prioritized, especially as farmers in the area are reluctant to tend to their fields out of fear for their safety,” he said.
The PDF Chairman urged the wildlife warden to mobilize staff and resources for the swift elimination of the man-eater leopard causing havoc in the region. He called upon the Deputy Commissioner of Budgam to expedite the process of compensating the victims of these attacks, providing much-needed support to affected families without delay.
