Srinagar, Nov 14: Chairman of Peoples Democratic Front and former minister, Hakeem Muhammad Yaseen has raised serious concerns about the deteriorating power supply situation in Kashmir. He said the worsening crisis is causing significant hardships and inconvenience to the common masses, especially affecting elderly individuals, students, and unit holders.
Addressing deputations from Khansahib Budgam areas, Hakeem voiced his concern over the unprecedented power crisis in Kashmir. He said that unscheduled load shedding for extended hours not only hampers economic activities but also negatively impacts the lives of common people across the Kashmir division.
Despite assurances from the power department regarding additional electricity supply from the northern grid, Kashmir continues to grapple with unscheduled power cuts, creating chaos in daily life, he said.
The former minister criticised the government for failing to address the grievances of the common people, who continue to suffer due to the lack of basic civic amenities. He said there is a widespread unemployment and poverty overshadowing Kashmir. He said the worsening power crisis is unprecedented even before the onset of autumn, indicating the severity of the situation in the coming winter months. The common masses, particularly the elderly, students, and unit holders, are the first casualties of this government failure, he said.
According to a party statement, the delegations from Khansahib Budgam areas expressed their concerns about erratic power supply and escalating prices of essential commodities in the market. They noted that the lack of effective market checking systems allows unscrupulous traders and profiteers to exploit people at their discretion. Hakeem assured the delegations that he would promptly raise the issues with higher authorities to seek redressal.
