Srinagar, Aug 19: Chairman of the Jammu & Kashmir Peoples Democratic Front (J&K PDF) and former minister, Hakeem Muhammad Yaseen has called on the government to grant backward area status to Khag in central Kashmir’s Budgam district. He also urged the sanctioning of a Degree College and a Sub-District Hospital (SDH) for the area.
Speaking at a one-day PDF workers’ convention in Khag, located in the Khansahib constituency, Hakeem highlighted the educational, economic, and social backwardness of the region.
“The area severely lacks basic amenities such as drinking water, power supply, and road connectivity,” he said.
The youth of Khag, he said, are in desperate need of a government degree college to pursue their education. He demanded an SDH in Khag to provide adequate medical facilities to the local population.
The former minister called for the completion of the Khag-Drang-Tossamaidan road, which he believes is crucial for boosting economic and tourist activities in the region. He demanded the fast-tracking of the Mirgund-Arizal road, which would connect approximately 50 villages. He underscored the importance of completing these roads before the onset of winter due to their significant public importance.
Addressing the people, the PDF Chairman cautioned against being swayed by the emotional slogans of traditional regional political parties. Instead, he urged voters to elect capable and dedicated candidates who can genuinely represent their aspirations in the upcoming Jammu & Kashmir assembly.
Yaseen assured the gathering that the PDF would actively raise issues concerning the overall development of the Khag area in the forthcoming legislative assembly.
