DC Budgam, other officers welcome Hajjis
Hajj flights from Saudi Arabia to continue till July 6: Dir Airport

Srinagar, June 22: The first batch of 320 Hajj Pilgrims from Jammu and Kashmir returned from holy Haj pilgrimage in Saudi Arabia on Saturday. The pilgrims were received by Deputy Commissioner Budgam, other dignitaries at Srinagar International Airport, officials said.
Deputy Commissioner Budgam, Akshay Labroo, SSP Budgam, Executive Officer J&K Haj Committee, Dr Shujahat Qureshi, Director Srinagar International Airport and other dignitaries welcomed the Hajj pilgrims.
On their arrival, DC Akshay Labroo along with SSP Budgam, Nikhil Borkar welcomed and greeted pilgrims on performing Hajj and for their successful culmination of holy journey. During interaction with Pilgrims, the DC enquired about arrangements made for their smooth and peaceful pilgrimage.
Director of Srinagar International Airport Javed Anjum told Rising Kashmir that one Hajj flight arrived on Saturday at 9:45 PM and special Hajj flights from Saudi Arabia will continue till July 6.
“We had made elaborate arrangements at the Airport regarding various issues relating to the arrival of Hajj pilgrims,” he said.
Executive Officer, J&K Haj Committee, Shujaat Ahmed Qureshi said that the authorities have already made arrangements regarding various issues relating to the arrival of Hajj flights.
He said a total of 7008 Hajj pilgrims had embarked on the Hajj pilgrimage this year, of which around 6800 started their journey from Srinagar and over 500 from Delhi.
“6,852 pilgrims from Srinagar, inclusive of those from Ladakh, while 541 pilgrims departed from other airports, primarily Delhi airport”, he said.
Dr Quershi said that 37 women pilgrims undertook sacred journey without a Mahram, with the majority from Srinagar.
“The entire operation will be carried out smoothly and we will be able to ensure a nice experience for our passengers”, he said.
Pertinent to mention here, due to the heatwave around 550 pilgrims have died during the Hajj this year . The deceased include nine pilgrims from Jammu and Kashmir.
