28 flights carry 3,952 pilgrims to Saudi Arabia

Srinagar, May 05: The last flight carrying around 140 pilgrims departed from Srinagar International Airport on Tuesday for Al-Madinah Al-Tayyibah, concluding the Haj 2026 departure operations with a total of 3,952 pilgrims having left for the annual pilgrimage across 28 flights from April 18 to May 5.

According to details accessed by Rising Kashmir, all 28 scheduled flights from Srinagar Airport have departed. Hajj this year is expected to take place between May 25 and May 30, depending on moon sighting.

Officials had earlier informed that a total of 3,990 pilgrims would depart through Srinagar embarkation, including 323 from Ladakh, while others would travel through Delhi and Mumbai. However, 38 Haj aspirants opted for cancellation due to various personal and logistical reasons.

In a post on X, Srinagar Airport stated: "Haj Movement 2026 departures successfully concluded today at Srinagar Airport. A total of 28 flights carrying 3,952 pilgrims took off, marking the culmination of a smooth and well-coordinated operation."

Srinagar Airport extended heartfelt prayers and best wishes to all Haj pilgrims for a safe, blessed, and spiritually fulfilling journey. "May their pilgrimage bring peace, prosperity and prayers for all. We sincerely thank all stakeholders, staff and our followers for their unwavering support in ensuring seamless Haj operations," the post added.

Executive Officer of the J&K Haj Committee, Dr Shujaat Ahmad Qureshi, said that with the final departure from Srinagar, the embarkation doors for outbound flights are now closed, extending gratitude to pilgrims, staff of all departments involved, and volunteers.

This year, Haj pilgrims across India, including Jammu and Kashmir, were asked to pay an additional Rs 10,000 per pilgrim due to the ongoing Middle East crisis. Three major initiatives were introduced: a short Hajj lasting only 20 days, a ban on self-cooking, and segregation of male and female pilgrims in hotel accommodations.
