Kulgam, Feb 19: Gusty winds, along with showers, caused damage to several residential structures in many villages in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Monday.
The showers and gusty winds starting from Monday morning caused damage to the rooftops of several houses in Qazigund, Kund, and a residential house in Pranhall in Pahloo tehsil of the district.
An official said the residential house of Hashmat Ali Khatana, son of Abdul Salam Khatana, a resident of Pranhall, got damaged due to rain in the wee hours of Monday.
According to locals, the family whose house has been damaged is poor, with two fully handicapped members.
Mohammad Iqbal, a local of Pranhal village, said the family comprises seven members, with two fully handicapped person who are confined to bed. “They lack any means of livelihood. We appeal to the authorities to assist them in the best possible way,” he said.
Tehsildar Pahloo, Showkat Ahmad told Rising Kashmir that the residential house in his tehsil has suffered damage due to rain, but family members were rescued. He said the administration has reached out to them.
“Immediate relief was provided to the affected family, and more relief shall follow,” Tehsildar said.
Meanwhile, the district administration in Kulgam has set up a control room to ensure the prompt redressal of public grievances, efficient coordination, and improved emergency response.
“This district-level control room aims to enhance overall efficiency in addressing community concerns and handling emergency situations effectively,” an official said.
