Gusty winds with light showers bring mercury down in Kashmir parts

The gusty winds with light showers have brought the mercury down on Wednesday evening even though the day temperature settled around 30 degree Celsius in Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir and elsewhere in the Valley.

Srinagar along with the other parts of Kashmir received light showers in the evening hours, bringing down the mercury.

However, the maximum temperature in Srinagar and elsewhere continued to settle around 30 degree Celsius today amidst the forecast of heat wave in Jammu & Kashmir till June 17.

The details available reads that Srinagar recorded a maximum temperature of 29.9 degree Celsius while Qazigund, the gateway of Kashmir, recorded 31.0 degree Celsius today.

As per the data, Pahalgam, a famous tourist destination, recorded a maximum temperature of 26.0 degree Celsius while the mercury at Kupwara in north Kashmir settled at 29.1 degree Celsius.

In Kokernag, the mercury settled at 30.0 degree Celsius while in Gulmarg, a famous ski-resort, it settled at 20.8 degree Celsius.

The details further reveal that Jammu recorded a maximum temperature of 43.6 degree Celsius. The other stations, however, recorded above 30 degree Celsius including Banihal, Batote, Katra and Bhaderwah.

Banihal recorded 31.8 degree Celsius while Batote recorded 32.1 degree Celsius. The data further reveals, adding that the mercury in Katra and Bhaderwah recorded 39.9 degree Celsius and 32.8 degree Celsius respectively.

The weatherman has predicted a heat wave in Jammu and Kashmir till June 17.

However, Director Meteorological department, Dr Mukhtar Ahmad had said that the weather would remain generally dry till June 17 while the possibility of light rain and thunder cannot be ruled out—(KNO)
