SRINAGAR, NOV 23: More than nine lakh tourists have enjoyed the Gondola ride at Gulmarg this year and the figure is expected to cross more than million mark by the end of this year. Tourists describe the experience as surreal and alluring.
As the flagship attraction of Kashmir tourism, the Gulmarg Gondola stands as possibly India’s most popular ropeway, reaching an impressive height of 14,000 ft, making it Asia’s highest operating cable car.
This year, the J&K Cable Car Corporation dedicated efforts to enhance service delivery, implementing improvements in the ticket issuing mechanism, conducting rigorous safety tests, and modernizing the second phase of the Gandola with state-of-the-art technology.
Raja Yaqoob, the Managing Director of J&K Cable Car Corporation, emphasized the corporation’s commitment to its role as a key stakeholder in J&K tourism. He expressed the corporation’s dedication to improving the tourist experience by providing an easy, hassle-free, and safe ride. Yaqoob assured tourists of even better facilities in the upcoming winter season and urged them to book tickets online, adhering to the specified timings to avoid inconvenience.
The Gulmarg Cable Car consists of two phases: the first from Gulmarg resort to Kongdori valley and the second from Kongdori to Apharwath Peak. Boasting a total of 108 cabins and 18 towers, the first stage reaches Kongdoori Station at 2,650 m (8,694 ft), while the second stage elevates to an impressive height of 3,980 m (13,058 ft) on Kongdoori Mountain, a shoulder of the nearby Afarwat Peak (4,200 m or 13,780 ft).
