Poonch, July 11: In a tragic incident on Friday, three members of a wedding party — including the groom — sustained serious injuries after being hit by shooting stones along the Mughal Road near the Panar area in Poonch district.
According to officials, the wedding cavalcade was en route from Shahpur, Poonch to Shopian when the vehicle was struck by falling rocks between Chandi Mar and Panar. The impact caused severe injuries to three individuals traveling in the vehicle, with the groom reported to be in critical condition. Eyewitnesses and fellow travellers on the Mughal Road immediately came to the victims’ aid and shifted them to PHC Chandi for initial medical treatment. After receiving first aid, the injured were referred to GMC Srinagar for advanced care due to the seriousness of their condition. The injured have been identified as–Mohd Amin (30), son of Abdul Kareem, resident of Shahpur,
Mohd Khalid (30), son of Ghulam Rasool, resident of Shahpur and Mohd Javid (25), son of Mohd Ali
Speaking to reporters, BMO Surankote, Dr. Mohd Yousuf Choudhary, confirmed that all three sustained serious injuries and that the groom had suffered multiple wounds. He further said that the condition of was groom was critical. The incident has once again raised safety concerns about traveling on the Mughal Road, particularly in areas prone to landslides and stone shooting, especially during the monsoon season.
