Srinagar, Dec 03: Shahr e Khaas Literary & Cultural Welfare Society, in collaboration with Jammu & Kashmir Art Culture And Languages and Angel’s Cultural Academy, orchestrated a spectacular one-day cultural phenomenon, “MEERAS,” at Tagore Hall. Aimed at rekindling a love for Kashmiri culture among the youth, the event witnessed enthusiastic participation from a myriad of schools, showcasing a vibrant tapestry of Kashmiri heritage.
The cultural mosaic unfolded through a diverse array of performances, including folk songs, drama, ladishah, mimicry, Sufi songs, Rouff, and folk dances. Students from schools like Radiant Public School, Alamdar Memorial Institute Chawalgam Kulgam, Spring Buds Educational Institute Ompora Budgam, New Career Convent School Habba Kadal Srinagar, and PG Girls Hostel Bemina Srinagar passionately portrayed the richness of Kashmiri traditions.
Highlighting the urgency to preserve Kashmiri culture, the descendants of renowned poet Shad Ramzan Syed Bakhtawar Shah and Syed Hoor Shah emphasized its antiquity, claiming it predates even the Harappa and Indus Valley civilizations. Amidst the cultural presentations, Kalaam e Raheem Sahab and Gojri performances showcased the linguistic diversity intrinsic to Kashmiri culture.
The event also featured thought-provoking skits by Angel’s Cultural Academy, urging the youth to reconnect with their roots amidst the pervasive influence of Westernization. Renowned personalities like GM Bujjal, Sabzar Shiekh, Tabasum Rehman, Sahil Bashir, Arsalan Yousuf, and Tariq Ahmad Shera joined the cultural crusade on stage, emphasizing the pivotal role of schools in promoting and preserving Kashmiri culture.
The program garnered admiration from the audience, who expressed gratitude to the organizers for curating a vibrant and enlightening cultural experience. Chief Guest Khawaja Farooq Renzu Shah commended the outstanding performances, while awards were distributed to participants, dignitaries, sponsors, and media persons during the program’s conclusion.
Prominent figures such as Dr. Farooq Anwar Mirza, Firdous Ahmad Dar, Dr. Syed Iftikhar Ahmad, Dr. Mohammad Rafeeq Khan, Ajaz ul Ramzan, and others graced the occasion as special guests. The event, hosted by the esteemed Junaid ul Islam, underscored the critical need to organize such programs, ensuring the preservation and celebration of Kashmiri heritage in the face of growing Western influences.
