Srinagar, May 08: The Jammu and Kashmir Police on Wednesday affixed Global Positioning System (GPS) tracker in Baramulla for monitoring round the clock movement of bailed-out drug peddlers.
By introducing this technology, Baramulla becomes the second district in Union Territory after Kupwara district to monitor drug peddlers.
A police officer at Baramulla said that in compliance to an order received from hon’ble Court, Baramulla Police on Wednesday installed a GPS tracking device on a bailed out drug peddler in a NDPS case.
“The accused was arrested along with recovery of contraband and has been bailed out recently. The GPS anklet will be used to monitor the movement of the drug peddler and ensure that he doesn’t violate the bail conditions,” he said.
The police officer said that this action is aimed to make Baramulla a Drug free District.
Last week, Kupwara became the first District in Kashmir Zone to deploy GPS tracker anklets for bailed-out defendants in an NDPS case to enhance surveillance capabilities to combat drug, terror and other related crimes.
In December 2023, Udhampur Police installed GPS Tracker Device (Anklet) to monitor the accused movement.
The GPS tracker anklet is a wearable device affixed around the ankle of the person to monitor and track his movement.
