GPC hosts writing & debate competition to promote helmet safety

  Kishtwar, Sep 22: The Standard Club of the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) at Government Polytechnic College Kishtwar, in collaboration with the Transport Department Kishtwar, Monday organised a Standard Writing and Debate Competition on the BIS Helmet Code, along with a Road Safety Awareness Programme at the college campus. According to a statement issued here, the event, conducted under the guidance of the BIS Branch Office Kishtwar, aimed to sensitize students about the importance of standardization, helmet safety, and responsible road behaviour. Over 80 students participated enthusiastically, showcasing their creativity, knowledge, and commitment to safety standards. The programme was graced by Tasleem Wani, Assistant Regional Transport Officer (ARTO) Kishtwar, as the Chief Guest, accompanied by Er. Robin Parihar, Motor Vehicle Inspector. Faculty members in attendance included Er. Arun Singh (I/C Academics), Er. Anuj Kotwal, Er. Karishma Parihar, Er. Syed Rubiya, Er. Haroon Waza, Er. Ashfaq Hussain and Rajesh Singh. During the event, ARTO Kishtwar delivered an insightful PowerPoint presentation on road safety, stressing the importance of wearing helmets, adhering to traffic regulations, and the pivotal role of youth in cultivating a disciplined road culture. Er. Dheeraj Shan, Mentor and Resource Person, BIS, also addressed the gathering with a presentation on Standards and Hallmarking of Gold, underlining the relevance of quality standards in daily life and motivating students to adopt these principles. The winners received helmets, cash prizes, and mementos, while all debate competition participants were awarded medals in recognition of their efforts to promote safety awareness. The event was coordinated by Suman Sen, while Principal Er. Mehmood Ahmad appreciated the students’ enthusiastic involvement and applauded the collective efforts of the BIS, Transport Department, and faculty in delivering a meaningful awareness programme. The college expressed sincere gratitude to the BIS Branch Office Kishtwar for their continuous support and guidance, which made the event a grand success.
