Srinagar, Jan 6: In a bid to revive the erstwhile glory of Shar-e-Kashmir, the government is diligently working to expedite its restoration under the prestigious Smart City project, as revealed by Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Vijay Kumar Bidhuri, on Saturday.
Addressing reporters during a function in Srinagar, Bidhuri acknowledged the concerns raised during the G-20 meeting, emphasizing the perceived neglect of Shar-e-Khas. He assured the public that the government was committed to fulfilling its promise of restoring the old Srinagar to its former splendour. “Efforts are underway to make it as beautiful as it was earlier,” stated Bidhuri, highlighting the ongoing initiatives under the Smart City project.
The Divisional Commissioner expressed optimism about the positive transformation that Shar-e-Kashmir would undergo once the Smart City project reaches completion. “Under the Smart City project, significant progress has been made, and I am hopeful that this place will become even more beautiful,” he added.
Bidhuri specifically highlighted the Habbakadal Bridge as a potential hotspot for locals. Designed exclusively for pedestrians, the bridge is poised to become a scenic attraction for late-evening strolls upon completion. “After the completion of this bridge, people can spend their late evenings here,” he enthused.
Providing an update on the overall progress, Bidhuri conveyed that the Smart City projects are advancing at an accelerated pace. Major projects have already been completed, and he expressed confidence that all the endeavours under this prestigious initiative would be accomplished before the stipulated deadline.
The Divisional Commissioner concluded by assuring the public that the government remains dedicated to the restoration of Shar-e-Kashmir and the enhancement of Srinagar’s overall aesthetic appeal under the ambitious Smart City project. The concerted efforts aim to breathe new life into the historic city, preserving its cultural heritage for future generations, he added.
